Azia Burgi Science and Trade Institute	Posted - 2006.10.09 13:55:00 - [1] I was pootling about the other day when I suddenly realised that I was being cheated. "How so????" I hear you mumble. Well, can names. You can have hundreds of characters in can names but only 25 in ship names. Now surely having cans advertising stuff around gates with names so long you need an IMAX screen just to fit the name on causes more lag then a name for a ship that isn't displayed normally. My solution to the problem: Unanchor all secure cans, everywhere - if you use a can regularly you could go and reanchor it after the patch. Change the field length for secure cans to 25 Change the field length for shipnames to 256 (just so I can finally have a ship called "Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival" (yes i read a lot of Iain M. Banks)) Allow individuals to advertise on billboards on a system, constellation, regional basis - ie: if your corp operates in a certain region you could apply to have your services flash up on the billboards in that region. Obviously this would cost more than advertising to just one system or a contellation. You could even tie this into the new contracts system or something Anyway, my point is: can we have longer shipnames please? (i'll bake you a cake if we can) <insert flames on why this is not possible or whatever here> Play nicely now... I made a start on my website of trying to keep a record of my ships. I got bored . My Ships List (woefully out of date). I suppose now that I am learning useful things at college like asp.net and SQL I could make a dynamic one... I understand that would open a person up to being fooled by someone using ship naming to try to trick you - but I like the immersion of it. I'd much rather know that the Nostromo is on approach rather than who's piloting it! I seem to remember an option in the overview settings where you could turn on the shipname. but that only worked when you hovered the cursor over it. There used to be a corp called Contact Special Circumstances (ticker: CONSC). They kind of drifted apart though. which was a shame.
